Since South African citizens between the ages of 35 and 49 were made eligible to register for vaccination from the 15th of July 2021, the actual vaccine rollout has been progressing swiftly, with the age group having started receiving vaccines as of the 1st of August 2021.
Government has remained adamant that vaccination is not, nor will ever be forced upon citizens, but they have urged citizens to get the jab in the interest of protecting both themselves and those around them. Government officials have also made it a point to set an example, with a number of government representatives broadcasting their receipt of the vaccine.
One of the more recent representatives was Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Buti Manamela. Manamela received his vaccine at the Tshwane University of Technology vaccination site on the 12th of August.
